Liu Jianchao Attends Launching Ceremony for the Kit of Love Project of Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund Time:2022/08/30

On August 25, 2022, the launching ceremony for the Kit of Love Project between China and Cambodia was held in Ang Kob Primary School built with the help of China Foundation for Peace and Development, in Bati District, Takeo Province of Cambodia. Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), Wang Wentian, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, CheaVandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications of Cambodia, Ouch Phea, Governor of Takeo Province and others were present.

The project was jointly organized by China NGO Network for International Exchanges and China Foundation for Peace and Development under the framework of Joint Action for Defeating the COVID-19 Silk Road Community Building Initiative, and was officially launched in March 2021. The project is implemented with the help of Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund. 10,000 the kits of love containing anti-epidemic supplies and food will be distributed to students in impoverished areas in Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk Province and TboungKhmum Province. The launching ceremony was co-held by China Foundation for Peace and Development and Civil Society Alliance Forum of Cambodia. Nearly 200 representatives of teachers and students from local primary schools attended the activity.

In his speech, Liu said that the COVID-19 is still ravaging across the world. Defeating the epidemic, embracing health and bringing our life back to the right track are the common goal of the peoples of our two countries. Letting the children live, study, and grow in a safe environment full of love is always on the mind of the two Parties and governments. The project launched today aims to defeat the epidemic with love, enable the children to enjoy a carefree school life and happy childhood, address the concerns of schools and families, facilitate resumption of work, production and school, and strive for people's aspiration for a better life.

Liu cited a Cambodian proverb which goes like "flowers need pollinating to produce fruit, while trees need water to grow". Under the joint establishment and cultivation from the leaders of the elder generations of both countries, particularly the care and promotion from General Secretary Xi Jinping and CPP's President SamdechTecho Hun Sen in recent years, China-Cambodia relations have enjoyed robust development, witnessed fruitful results and brimmed with vitality. I just heard the earnest expectations in the speeches from the representatives of civil organizations from both sides, and saw the hope in the eyes of children. Feeling happy and moved, I am also full of anticipation and hope for the future of bilateral relations.

Liu said, there is an old saying in China, “true friendship stands out in difficult times.” The small kit of love is an epitome of the valuable friendship between the two peoples. During the tough times in China's fight against the epidemic, King Norodom Sihamoni and former Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk gave generous help to China. CPP's President SamdechTecho Hun Sen paid a visit to China despite the epidemic, becoming the first head of state to visit China since the onset of the epidemic. During the tough times in Cambodia's fight against the epidemic, China's Blue Sky Rescue Teamcarried out cleaning and disinfection work in ten provinces in Cambodia despite of high temperatures. And people across China donated anti-epidemic materials to Cambodia. In the face of the epidemic, the peoples of the two countries have demonstrated the nature of a community with a shared future for mankind with concrete actions, and the essence of China-Cambodia relations—amity, friendship and mutual help.

Liu noted, the civil organizations of both countries have proceeded from the needs of the society and people, and conducted multiple cooperation projects in such fields as poverty reduction, education, science and technology, and healthcare that meet the needs of the people, bring benefits to the people and enhance the amity between the two peoples. This has effectively enhanced the livelihood of the two peoples. At the Global Development High-level Dialogue held not long ago, General Secretary Xi Jinping announced the establishment of Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund. The Kit of Love Project is one of the first batch of projects China's civil organizations implements worldwide with the support of the fund. It is believed that with the strong support of the two Parties and governments, civil organizations from both countries will take the project as a starting point to further enhance communication and cooperation, to benefit the two peoples with the fruits of bilateral practical cooperation.

CheaVandeth thanked the Chinese side for the long-term selfless help in Cambodia's economic development and improvement of people's livelihood. As China's good neighbor, good friend, and good partner, the Cambodian side is willing to work with the Chinese side to jointly safeguard, carry forward and develop the traditional friendship between the two countries.

At the launching ceremony, Cui Chunlai, Head of the Cambodian office of China Foundation for Peace and Development, and KemreatViseth, Chairman of Cambodian Civil Society Alliance Forum, jointly signed the agreement to start the project. Liu and CheaVandeth distributed the kits of love to representatives of the students. During their visit to the classrooms, the students of the primary school performed "Missing China" composed by King Father Norodom Sihanouk to express their affection and gratitude for China. Liu had friendly exchanges and interaction with the students.

After the event, Liu visited a model village of China-Cambodia friendship built with the help of China Foundation for Peace and Development, and held discussions and exchanges with local officials and villagers. Local residents said that the solar street lights, concrete roads and clean and sanitary water facilities built by the Chinese people have greatly improved their lives.
