LAOS: Joint Action for Defeating the COVID-19 Silk Road Community Building Initiative Time：2020/04/30

    On April 27, the Handover Ceremony of the health and epidemic prevention materials donated by China Foundation for Peace Development (CFPD) to Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity (LCPS) was held at the central office building of the Committee of People’s Relations of the Central Committee of Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) in Vientiane. H.E. Jiang Zaidong, Ambassador of China to Laos, H.E. Sounthone Sayachack, Head of the External Affairs Commission of the Central Committee of the LPRP, H.E. Somphanh Phengkhamy, Vice-president of National Assembly and Chairman of LCPS, among other related members and representatives attended the Ceremony. 

Ambassador Jiang Zaidong submitted the letter written by Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) to Sounthone Sayachack, Head of the External Affairs Commission of the Central Committee of the LPRP. Ambassador Jiang then on expressed that: In April 3, President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee spoke on the phone with Lao President Boungnang Vorachit, General Secretary of the LPRP Central Committee. With which they exchanged in-depth views on cooperation in the fight against COVID-19 epidemic and the advancement of bilateral relations between Laos and China, and as such further pointed out the direction for the both sides to promote cooperation in various fields, especially in the fight against COVID-19 cooperation. In order to implement the important consensus of the two top leaders of both parties and countries, our both sides have been actively carrying out our work wholeheartedly ever since. Under the coordination of the External Affairs Commission of the LPRP Central Committee and the IDCPC Central Committee of the two Parties, the National Health Commission of China has organized the Chinese medical experts group selected by Yunnan Province to help and assist the Lao side in establishing a complete set of programs from the anti-external inflow into the counter-internal proliferation. By which the Lao scientific and standardized level of the prevention and control capability to curb COVID-19 epidemic has improved. And again this time, Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee commissioned the Chinese Embassy in Laos to hand over a batch of surgical masks and Chinese new patent medicines for preventing COVID-19. We are willing to work with the External Affairs Commission of the LPRP Central Committee to make great efforts to achieve desired results and continue to help Laos win the battle of prevention and control.

Minister Sounthone remarked that in face of a sudden encountering with COVID-19 epidemic, the two parties, the two countries and the two peoples of China and Laos have been helping each other hand-in-hand and cooperating closely shoulder-by-shoulder. The LPRP, the Lao government and the Lao people would like to express heartfelt thanks to the CPC, the Chinese government and Chinese people for unconditional help and support.

The Joint Action for Silk Road Community Building Initiative was launched by China NGO Network for International Exchanges at the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in April 2019. To which it is aimed to enhance people-to-people cultural exchanges and livelihood cooperation between Chinese NGOs and other NOGs located along with the Belt and Road countries, to promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, to advance people's wellbeing of all countries, and therefore as such to realize the people-to-people common aspiration of all countries. The donation was strongly supported by Tencent Charitable Foundation, Shanghai Pengxin (Group) Co., Ltd. and Fudian Bank Co., Ltd. with more than RMB 2 million in total.
