On September 21, 2017, the launch ceremony of China-Cambodia "Friends on the Silk Road" Five-school Project was held in Gaanbena Primary School, Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and his accompanying personnel, Xiong Bo, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Shincar, member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of Cambodia People’s Party and chairman of Central Financial and Economic Committee, Usong, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of People’s Party, Suos Yara, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of People’s Party, Pit Chamnan, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (referred to as the Ministry of Education), and Rhunmean, Governor of the State of Sihanoukville,attended the ceremony. Comrade Liu Yunshan and Xinka jointly completed the foundation for the new school building.

 

Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, delivered a speech at the ceremony. He emphasized that China and Cambodia have set an example of how two countries should treat each other as equals and cooperate with absolute sincerity. People-to-people exchanges and cooperation on livelihood is the base of China-Cambodia relations. The Chinese party and government have been supporting and encouraging more Chinese social organizations to carry out exchanges and pragmatic cooperation in Cambodia, and play a role in building the foundation of China-Cambodia people-to people relations.

 

Pit Chamnan, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and Rhunmean, Governor of the State of Sihanoukville, jointly expressed that CFPD has long supported the development of Cambodian education, and has successively built eight schools in different regions. It can be said that CFPD’s contribution not only created a solid foundation for the present and will also benefit the future. The schools may provide better education conditions to the development of Cambodian youths and show the goodwill of Chinese people as well, which would set a good example of pragmatic cooperation for the two countries.

 

More than 300 representatives of students, parents and villagers from five aided schools such as Gaanbena Primary Schoolattended the ceremony. The atmosphere was grand and warm. The mainstream media in Cambodia, Xinhua News Agency and CCTV have reported extensively on the event.

 

The five schools of China-Cambodia "Friends on the Silk Road" are located in the Sihanoukville province of Cambodia. According to the cooperation agreement signed by the Ministry of Education and the CFPD, we will fund the Ministry of Education to build a standard one-story school building for each of the five schools. Each school building contains 5 classrooms, indoor desks and chairs, an outdoor bathroom, and some other facilities. After the project is completed, it can accommodate nearly 2,400 children at the same time.
