China-Myanmar Civil Round Table Discussion Held in Yangon Time：2016/06/15

On June 1st, 2016, China Foundation for Peace and Development (CFPD) and Myanmar Cooperation for Peace and Development (MCPD) jointly held China-Myanmar Civil Round Table Discussion in the conference hall of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), Yangon. Representatives from both China and Myanmar’s civil society organizations, media, and think tanks were invited to the discussion in terms of Myanmar civil society organization’s role in transition period, status quo of Myanmar’s civil society organization and its challenges and opportunities in development as well as the civil cooperation between China and Myanmar. About 50 representatives attended the discussion, including those from China Myanmar Gas Pipeline Observation Committee, Padamyar Foundation，Panna Institute, Engineering World Peace, Myanmar Alliance for Transparency and Accountability, Yangon Media Group Limited, State Television of 5th Channel, VOA Myanmar Representative Office, Chinadotcom, China-Myanmar Friendship Association, Myanmar Wanbao Mining Copper Limited, Huawei Company, CCTV and Network PaukPhaw as a total of 30 organizations. The representative of Chinese Embassy in Myanmar also attended the discussion.

Myanmar Cooperation for Peace and Development (MCPD) is an alliance organization which is spontaneously formed by a group of 11 Myanmar civil society organizations. All of these organizations did send representatives to participate in our seminar that organized in November, 2015. It is the first formal activity launched since the establishment of Myanmar Cooperation for Peace and Development (MCPD).
